Goals???

Goals would mean to me that the end (finished layout) justifies the means (building the layout).........   In my case, I think the means justifies the end.

But then one could say that my goals are the building (process) of a layout.....

Or not.................

ENJOY  !

I guess for me the ultimate goal is...being able to stay in the hobby. I am now in my mid 50's and have been in the hobby for 45 years. I've survived one run of cancer but not without resultant body damage, I'm arthritic and have a bad back. My health and work future is dicey at best. Just don't know.

Gents, After 10 years with a small finished switching layout (10 x 18 feet) I built in HO, I ripped it all out, prior to moving to a much larger semi-retirement home in Arizona. With the sale of my house in Los Angeles, I will be able to build a larger layout building on my AZ property. The layout room is 25 feet by 40 feet, with a shop, and my library upstairs. I want to build a layout in On30, reflecting the Southwestern Desert. I also wish to have some O scale 2 rail trackage to bring cars in an out for a little commerce exchange. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and am a huge SP fan. So, the little desert railroad will be serviced by the mighty SP, with a busy transfer point. Steam and a few early diesels My goal is to get the building done and the layout at least running reliably before I die with my boots on! I'm 67 and a bit beat up. but i have confidence i can pull this off!

I'd say welcome to the forums but it would appear that you have actually been around for a while. So, let me say "Congratulations" on your first post!Thumbs UpThumbs UpBig Smile

Your goal sounds both admirable and achievable. I'm a bit beat up too at 60, but I plan on at least another 20 years in this house, hopefully more. I'm getting close to starting my first real layout and I can hardly wait.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Operations, operations, operations, and more operations.

And, for variety, operations.

My goal is to see if I can combine believable detailing with green screen miniature video and create something, different; maybe even be able to ride/drive my trains...mind, the 'believable detailing' has already taken up most of three years, so...

My goal is operations. I would not be in the hobby if it was only to run trains in a circle.

I wanted to update the power source of my layout. It will be DCC run. I still need to buy a DCC system before I get my Conrail DCC equipped locomotives.

Train layout goals and dreams for the year is set up and fully run a Conrail theme layout by the end of the year. Then Union Pacific and BNSF.

Great idea, it might make a nice break from operations!
