Rule 1: This is my railroad.

Rule 2: I make the rules.

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!

Rick,

They may be plain-jane schemes, but I like them. And you don't see many KCS cars at all, a nice hole to fill.

I’m prepping for one of our informal divisional summer ops sessions a week from Sat. (drop me a PM if you’re in the area and interested in attending), so have been doing lots of maintenance and other tasks getting my ducks in a row. In light of that, I finally decided to do something about the biggest operational bottleneck on the layout.
On most of the layout, sidings accomodate a train length for the narrowgauge of 8 cars, plus the loco. The single exception was Tefft, which could accommodate about five cars. Except for very short trains, this made Rockwood the only practical meeting point for many trains, making for a fairly inflexible situation. Adding the Cascade Branch (not yet in full operation) with its junction at Tefft aggravated the matter.
Here are pics of the old track arrangement.
So I decided to do something about it. After considering several alternatives, I extended the siding by three car lengths by moving the turnout south of the station. It was almost breathtaking to see that big long siding.
I quickly put together an informal first meet to thrill at the commodious siding length.
Crews and the dispatacher will all be happyBig Smile
In other news, which the crews said they wanted, so we'll see -- fast clocks!
Meanwhile, Maude and Mona cleaned up at the big poker game at Sheridan. Here they are waiting for the train to take them back to Red Mountain. Hopefully Maude won't spend all her winnings at Maquires and end face down on the station platform again!

DJ Grampy .... Thanks for commenting. Your evening shot is a good one, and your nicely ballasted track looks great.

Well, I got DCC installed into 3 units with success and 1 failure. SP&S #51 has been pulled from service, The remaining SP&S loco's are being sent out to be decoded by a professional. THe Intermountain F units however I got them to work and the decoders instaled(yay!) Trackwork on my module has been completed I need to cut and make the legs as well as well as complete the wiring.

I the narrow gauge shots, great work from everyone, and it's only friday.

The first pier and span of the West Elizabeth bridge has been erected

Three more spans, and an approach portion, and it will be ready.  The stone piers are pigmented chunks of pink foam, scored by my own hand.

Great work everyone. This is always my favorite thread of the week. This week I have photos of my coaling facility at twilight. Keep the great stuff coming.

I got my new camera, so I was able to take a photo with something better than a cell phone.  I've added some shrubbery and trees to the forest.  Yes, this is a very silly scene.

It's said that 30% of the human brain is devoted to sight, if so, my 30% is being tickled by all the great photos on this thread.

Hey Jimmy, nice hand masonry work!

Mr. B, you're over the rainbow with that scene!  I got a new camera too, but still on the beginning it's learning curve.

I'll have to beg off with another old re-run, but fitting as this is the last weekend of the Giro.

regards,  Peter

With the forum being down for “maintenance and upgrades”( Hmm) this weekend I decided not to start WPF early as I feared that the Really Good Stuff could get lost in the “technological rubbish skip.”
“Oh me of little faith”! Hope I’m wrong (again) cos as per usual, there is some Great Stuff ffolkes!!

Bear,

We missed you at the start, but you're here and that's what counts. I'm hoping the forum is up more than down over the next two days. Steve did empahsize "...sporadic page-not-found errors, inability to log in, and the like occasionally..."

How about some standard gauge action? Smile

Trainguy4466, that is great. :)

This weekend I was able to get most of the first little section of my layout complete.  I just have to finish by painting the road, adding lanes and then add the crossing signal.  I really like how this section turned out, especially the rusty / overgrown siding.

Long live the J!

Mike, thanks, come to think of it that is the only KCS car I have, they just don't register to those of us in the Northeast. There are a few more I would like to do if I can find the Oddballs Decals, my usual sources don;t have the ones I do want.

Garry, be prepared I have more of those IMRC 12 Panel 10' IH GN Boxcars and just got some more of the old Champ Decals that fit those cars.

I like your abbreviated loco.

I finally got back to work on my abbreviated passenger cars.  They now have trucks and couplers, and a loco (a recently acquired Forney)

Next it's off to the paint shop, then the glass shop.

A final update before the weekend ends and I turn into a pumpkin.  Here's the Railway Express depot from the street side...

And from the track side.  Hmmm...the camera seems to have caught a few flaws....

Terrifc stuff this week. I didn't do anything on the layout except for paint rails and replace an Atals Selector that flaked out on me. However, I did got to Streamliners at Spencer at the North Carolina Transportation museum.

Here's N&W 611, there for Restoration to Operating Condition:

I'm a little late this week. Great stuff guys.

A little something different from the BRVRR:

PRR F-7 #9822 rounds Pasture Curve on the BRVRR layout. The B&W kinda sets a different mood I think.

Thanks to everyone for making WPF the best thread of the week.
