Just think about it.  The joints will be side by side instead of staggered.  That should make it ride like a kangaroo after the ballast starts to settle.

They are staggared slightly, look at the pics closely.

This would be a good use for some of that old Atlas brass snap track. Cut it to fit and Weather it up really good then drop into a gondola.
