Rich,
That should be, pretty ''OBVIOUS''.

BTW: I should have said, He was at the VA Hospital, yesterday! A new technician in the x-ray dept. asked me. So what is wrong with your left shoulder? I said left shoulder? He said yeah! That's what it says here on the order. I said let me take my shirt off and you tell me what shoulder it is. It will be pretty ''Obvious'' the one with all the scars!
Obviously!
Hmm, the MR Boxcar forum seems to have been disappeared.I think I noticed it yesterday evening, in a "something changed - but what?" sort if wayIs this permanent? Have the forces of Good prevailed? What should become MR's glorious 5th column forum now?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Say it ain't so.
I really loved that forum.
It happen's.
I was getting tired of seeing my screen name for the last to post there anyway.
Nothing like interaction.
Frank
OP: I am sure I wasn't the only one who noticed the relatively unused aspect of that part of the forum, so I will take no credit (nor would I be so vain as to do so) for it's apparent demise. I would suggest, however, that it be replaced with a general "kinks" type thing (as the old column in MR used to be called), where all manner of fixes and solutions to the "physical" aspect of the hobby process are posted. Not the electrical/electronic, as that is already a specialized category, but a "solutions" type of thing would take some of the data load off the general forum and perhaps allow readers to search more efficiently for remedies and such.

It should be a place where we can send newbies who ask questions like "best coupler", "brass or nickle silver"," Code 100 or code 83", "DC or...

I like steemtrayn's idea. Those of us who are willing to answer newbies' questions can follow the threads, and those who find it tedious to see the same questions repeated over and over can avoid the topics.
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
That doesn't sound like a half bad idea!
As a matter of fact, other sites have '' newbie threads'' until they learn how to navigate the forums, they could always post there.
Good Idea! Dave and Steemtrayn.
That sounds like an even better use of the forum- a beginner's kiosk that serves to filter the endlessly repetitive postings from the general forum and re-direct/localize them to a place where such questions and responses- as well as the "kinks" stuff can reside.
All of this discussion presumes that Kalmbach intends to replace that forum with another.
My assumption is that the MR Anniversary Boxcar outlived it purpose and got deleted, not to be replaced with another forum.
If Kalmbach wanted another forum, it could have added one years ago.
richhotrain If they drop that marvelous Where Are The Anniversary Boxcars Now Forum, I will submit my Forum Membership resignation letter immediately. The wherabouts of the Anniversary Boxcars is absolutely critical to me. Rich

Thanks, Dave. I have had second thoughts about resigning, since Kalmbach has indicated to me that they might be willing to reconsider their decision to pull the plug on that extremely popular forum.
Oh Great! Now all that work I have been doing down in the siding spray painting MR 75th, 6 month and 3 day...and 4 day...and 5 day, and etc Anniversary is for naught. I hope the RR police don't find out that it has been me!!!

Dennis:
That explains why there were "so many" postings to that part of the Forums, right? (sarcasm intended). Or- are you just making a joke?????
Seriously, no one was looking (based on posting numbers) and (apparently) no one cared- that is, until you just posted above...
Re-directing newbie's repetitive questions (as postings) or my suggestion of a generic help forum would be beneficial.
If someone REALLY wants to know about the boxcar locations, set the thread up as a continuous sub-set, like the "Elliot's Diner" is in the General Forum- it would effortlessly preserve it, that way.
I think so far every post since I revived the thread was sarcasm or mocking the existance Anniversery Boxcar forum (someone even stated one of the boxcars had been scraped - in that case, how do you keep following it if the steel was recycled into Garden Weasels or something), or suggesting possible new forums.
Let's put it this way regarding the popularity of the forum - I bump this thread last Friday because I saw the forum was gone - but I do not know how long it was gone before that - perhaps days.Hey MR guys, give us a heads up in this thread if you're considering adding a new replacement forum...

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
I hope that I'm not ruffling any feathers but it seemed that few modelers responded on that particular forum. I think that the last time I visited the Anniversary Boxcar was 4 years ago. I realize now that when I visit these forums I typically:
1. Check out General Discussion first, like most of us here do, and respond to topics of interest.
2. Go to Layouts and Building.
I always look forward to seeing Tom's "Even More Signs for your Layout" thread updated. Outstanding resource that, hopefully, will not ever be taken down.
3. Occasionally stop in at "Electronics and DCC".
Even though it was in front of my nose, I think that, perhaps, I unconciously overlooked the Anniversary Forum and eventually forgot that it even existed!
But that's just me, an individual here and am not saying that there was anyting wrong with that forum. Members did visit and post there. But it makes me wonder how many other members here had an attitude or approach that was similar to mine?

I think that's a great idea. It would be nice to be able to post a thread on a topic where our friends from this forum could discuss other interest we may have in commen. My (playoff) Hockey thread from a couple of years ago had a lot of participation, it would have been better placed in a social forum. I know a lot of us play guitars and other musical instruments. We love our cars/trucks, photography, kids with special needs and a host of other interest.
As an example, I got PMing with a couple of guys on camping in the Rockies at good railfaning spots. The PMs turned into a camping in general discussion. Not really appropriate for the general discussion forum.
I initially came here to get help and talk trains. I now PM with a few people on a regular basis on things other than model RR. It would be nice to have those conversations and include other forum members in the conversation. It would add to the social aspect of things.
