 jecorbett:

That's what they said last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. If and when BLI does ever actually get this product to market, the MTH version will already be on my layout and my money will be in MTH's bank.

JE:

HeritageFleet1 again...

I understand your frustrations and the Dreyfuss Hudson will probably eventually get to market - but who wants to wait 2-5 years for a product?? That's a felony prison term.

But I digress and I think the MTH version is a worthy competitor and will definitely be a better performer - there's a lot of MTH bashers that can't stand it when someone praises them so I'd just keep that in mind with advice about waiting for BLI.

On the other hand, The BLI model which has not been seen or reviewed to my knowledge, will most likely be a very good model too - my gripes with BLI are not necessarily about the models they produce - it's just how they keep on re-inventing themselves  - it appears that they simply cannot make up their minds what they want to be as a model company.

With the vast majority of LHS and distributors not wanting- or willing- to carry their products anymore due to prior business practices, it will be very hard for them to achieve the status they once had.

I hope that the MTH model will be pleasing to you and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with your engine once you recieve it, should you go that direction.

Good luck to you.

Thanks. I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought MTH was a worthy competitor to BLI. Sure, it would be nice if they chose to be fully compliant with NMRA DCC standards but they chose a different path which is their right to do so. As long as their product will be functional on my DCC layout, that's all that matters to me. Right now it is a very simple choice. MTH has what I want and BLI doesn't. Why should I wait indefinitely for BLI to deliver on their unkept promises when MTH has what I want now? MTH offers a real locomotive and BLI offers revised delivery schedules. Not exactly a tough choice.

The sad thing is I once thought highly of BLI. My problem is not with the quality of their product. My problem is with their inability to deliver their product to the marketplace. Why do they announce one projected delivery date after another if they don't plan to keep it. Last year, I purchased Walthers 20th Century Limited through their monthly releases. They announced a set schedule for each piece in the set and for the most part stuck to it. I think there was a minor delay on the delivery of one or two pieces, but nothing I couldn't live with. BLI has been talking about their Dreyfus Hudson for over three years and so far, that is all it has been, talk. I'm delighted they finally got around to actually painting one of their pre-production models. Maybe someday they will actually produce ones that they can sell to the public. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that day. Life is too short to wait around for BLI to get their act together when their competitors are beating them to the punch. If BLI goes belly up, I won't be shedding any tears for them. There are other companies producing quality high end locos. I certainly won't miss them.

You're obviously letting it get to you since the tone of your posts have been the same several times over.  I learned my lesson with MTH's similar constant delays with the SD70Aces throughout 2009.  When they finally arrived they were worth it but now they sit on a shelf 95% of the time.  While I waited I picked up several other loco's and am happy with those as well.  Nothing in the future will be a must have in my book.  To me the avaiability date is when they arrive on the shelves and not a moment sooner.

Jeocorbett,

MTH hasn't necessarily delivered on their promises either though. Their Powhatan Arrow set was supposed to ship back in October 2009. To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure if it will ever be in production. I had it on order last year, I gave up. Their website is god awful too.

Fellas, it has been civil to this point, with no complaints, no reports from anyone, but my sense is that it ain't going to get any better from this point on, and there really isn't much else to say except...we'll see.
