Lets see here, I would like some kind of sound in my Brass 2-8-0, a "Ludmilla" diesel from Marklin for my German layout, and a job!   Where we live made the top 25 worst places to find a job.  I hope the new year brings a total turnaround in the US economy.   Merry Christmas everybody

There is nobody in my extended family who would have the slightest idea on what MRR stuff I would like as a Christmas gift. If they gave me a Railway related item it would probably be some kind of coffee table publication along the lines of "Ten Great Railways Around the World".Laugh

I still need an on-going supply of consumables so cash or a voucher from a local hardware store would be an excellent and much welcomed Christmas gift.

Can ya hear me, MamaQuestion

Cheers

Mine's a little different...

a.  TIME!

b.  a Local Hobby Shop with plenty of trains & supplies.

c.  someone to "round robin" with in terms of layout building.

d.  MOTIVATION to do some things.

e.  an affordable Yellowstone.

 I could go for

  • a DCC System... probably NCE, since that seems to be the leaning of the club.
  • An airbrush so I can *finally* finish my Bowser loco (it's been sitting unpainted for a *long* time now).
  • maybe the Tichy coaling tower...
  • and somewhere that I can set up my trains permanently
on a side note...does "win the MR Sweepstakes" count?Big SmileThumbs Up

Hi,

I'm 64 and learned long ago that no loved one of mine has a clue as to what works for me as far as a railroad related present goes.  Sooo, long ago I began preparing a very specific train wish list and gave it to my significant other to pass around if anyone asks about what they could get me.  Sometimes I got most of what's on the list, other times nothing.

One thing that is so easy is to suggest LHS gift certificates.  They are great!!!

Quick story..... my wonderful and generous older sister who lives in the Chicago area (I'm in Houston area) will pick up various train "collectables" and send to me.  They are always expensive, but nothing that I would ever consider buying.  I am gracious of course.   One time she went to Marshall Fields and got me a large beer mug, with a pewter top that had a European loco on it.  It has sat in a cabinet for about 30 years now, and while I would never do so, I really would love to put it on Ebay to help finance my upcoming layout rebuild.

Hey, back in the '60s and '70s my favorite gifts were Athearn kits - many for $2 or $3!!!!

Funny how we generally either really like or really hate railroad items from "over there..." (no, I'm not being prejudiced as it probably works both ways).  A few years ago, my wonderful daughter bought me a train lamp complete with a touch sensitive stand; there is no switch on it.  You simply touch it and it comes on... touch it again and it gets brighter, etc.

Did I mention that it also had a glass shade complete with steam locomotives... with bumpers on them??!?  : (      I really do love my daughter, but...

Dan, my ex-girlfriend about 10 years ago had a lamp like that on her bedside stand-it wasn't train related but still pretty neat as it beat looking for a switch when you weren't familiar to the location of it.

As for a Christmas want list, pretty much the materials to get my layout/basement going. Therefore, I'm trying like crap to get my old Dodge sold to get the $$.

But if there was anyone to buy me train stuff for Christmas, it would have to be WM3798's cat.

Anyways, Lee hates the Chessie System, & some of you may recall, I think it was last Christmas that he made a post about "getting a Chessie loco" for Christmas, followed by a pic & message; "Note to self-don't let your cat on Ebay after his 3rd martini!" (with a pic of his cat in front of the comp with a drink by his side) Since I love Chessie stuff, I want his cat on my gift list! Big Smile

That post/pic has had me laughing on & off all year everytime I think about it-it was one of the best I've ever saw.

Incidentally, my cat is on my lap now, & all he wants for Christmas is toys, the dawgs not to chase him, & not to rename him Chessie! (his name is Raven)

I'm waiting on a couple of more radio throttles from NCE and some flextrack to finish my staging. If those are here by Xmas, I'll be happy.

My 2 boys are 5 years old this year. I thought I'd buy them each an HO diesel locomotive. A Walthers NH Alco for one, and a Bachmann NYC FT for the other. We don't have DCC yet, but I might buy the DCC version of the FT.

3 really good choices, Dean.

1. BN/SP&S Alco C636
2. 1980's - 2000 Greyhound bus. I wish someone would make a MCI G4500 and/or a MCI A or D model in H0 scale.
