What do you mean by "real" midwest? Michigan's in the midwest! That's where I live.

Yes, Michigan is in the midwest. As for my location I'm three miles from 4884bigboy up here in MI.

PS-- I forgot, go Cubs!

QUOTE: Michigan is in the midwest.

People gave me the weirdest looks when I moved from Utah to Michigan in 1993 and told them how odd it felt to be living in the East. They strongly assured me I was living in the Midwest. The acres and acres of cornfields surrounding the small town where I lived certainly supported their theory, even if I had a hard time believing them when I looked at my US map.

Of course there was a time when Michigan was in the Northwest (but there weren't many railroads then). I laugh to think about that now that I live in the "real" Northwest. And I'm sure folks in Alaska laugh to hear me refer to Washington State as the Northwest.

I guess it's all relative.

I grew up in Tampico, Illinois in the northwest part of the state. Watching BN trains in my early childhood years sparked my love for trains.

Oh yeah, a guy named Ronald Reagan was born there. Legend has it he moved on to bigger and better things in his lifetime....

Okay, the original question posted by CNWfan5525 from over a year ago was:

Yeah, it starts in Peoria and runs south right past beautiful Edwardsville and then meanders farther south until it picks up a southern accent and becomes the SouthernMidWest, Eastern Sub. [:D]

Just for historical reference, Illinois was once THE western almost-half of the United States. A friend of mine had the ENTIRE abstract deed for his house that went back to the original land grants establishing the territory (which pre-dated the Declaration of Independence!). Illinois BEGAN just above the Canadian border over Minnesota and roughly followed the Mississippi River to it's MOUTH in what is now Louisiana! It also included parts of Indiana, Tennessee and Mississippi. The land grant PRE-DATED all three states!

So I don't know where the he** I live.
