building a Intermodal yard
Posted by killer dragonoz on Monday, August 4, 2008 8:42 PM

Just like to know if anyone has built a intermodal yard and how hard or easy it was to build.

I'm going to make a model display for my room.

Some tips will be a big help

Thanks

it would really depend on how involved you want to get, and or the space. All it needs is bacially 2 to three tracks sunk into the road with truck lanes between them, a large enough space for a container storage area, and a large crane spanning it all. Manned by a switcher, though probably a GP 40.

Here's a satillite of a "small" (relative) Intermodal function at Cinncy. There's a large crane that spansd the trains, then a ferrying truck brings it to a second crane that's fee moving and just wide enough to straddle the truck. it will lift the conatiner and stack it.
