" THE NEW DIGITRAX THORTTLES"
Posted by TrainsRMe1 on Monday, June 6, 2022 11:44 PM

I plan to buy new throttles for my layout, I already have Zepher DCS50, now I want to add the new Digitrax UT6 utility throttle to power my layout, I have loconet UP5 panels,  is the new UT6 compatable to the UP5 panels???                                                                    Take Care Trainsrme1Cool

Yes.

I have grown to like the 6- series throttles once I got over some initial "learning curve" bumps and a few firmware revisions from Digitrax.

I have two of the UT6s and one DT602. There is a new UP7 panel available now as well but the main added feature is battery charging for the 6- throttles and if you are "plugged in" to the UP5 there's no need for battery charging. Your UP5s will work fine.

Good Luck, Ed

I think you'll like them, especially if this will be your first "add-on" throttle. I had to "unlearn" a lot of the stuff I was used to with the DT-400 series and to a lesser degree the UT-4s.

It would be a good idea for you to browse posts at the Digitrax.io groups as there are lots of hints there for a successful setup.

Customizing the "time-out" settings, downloading and installing firmware and other user help is there.

I find myself using the smaller UT6 more often than the kind-of bulky DT-602.

Keep in mind the on-off switch is sort of a "rocker" switch. It took me a while to figure this out and there is no mention of it in the documentation.

Good Luck, Ed

Like the 4 better but they are rather rare now, 6 has more features than needed for my small layout.

Something for consideration; TCS now has two wifi throttles, the UWT-100 and smaller UWT-50.  If you buy the LNWI digitrax accessory, you can run trains via the Digitrax system using any wifi throttle but the TCS throttles are dedicated throttles.  But if you want to use a smart phone with a throttle app, that's an option too.

The UT6 is plug and play with a UP5.  It has push button engine number select, 28 function control and an options editor.   I use mine for switching a lot.  The price is right for what you get.

I have two UT6 and one UT 602D and I like them. But if you want to do consist, you may need 602 or 602D.

I agree. Smartphones are way lighter to handle and have outstanding battery life. And the App is super easy to use. My next step will be JMRI...

The UT6 and UT6D are capable of doing consisting themselves.

Which was a surprise to me, but they are.

Hi TrainsRMe1,

I know nothing about Digitrax throttles except how to spell the word 'throttles'. Do you suppose you could correct the title of your thread? Every time I see it I wince.

All you have to do is click on 'EDIT' under your first post.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Well, that explains why I couldn't find them on the Digitrax website.  I thought he meant Digitrax turtles.

This is good to know. Thanks! I may need to read the manual more carefully...

I've put together some tables comparing the features of the utility throttles, advanced throttles and command stations that Digitrax has released over the years at http://www.fritzmilhaupt.com/dcc
