I have a DC Genesis F7 A/B pair that I want to add decoders to. I'm only going to put sound in the A unit. I believe the 58821 LokSound is the correct decoder for the A unit but Tony's Train Exchange requires me to select the appropriate sound file from dozens of EMD choices. I am completely unfamiliar with any of these and can't find a cross reference to determine which one(s) would be correct for an F7. I can't copy the list so instead I'll post a link and there is a drop down menu for the sound files. If anyone can either tell me the correct sound file or point me to a cross reference, I would appreciate it.

The 58821 for EMD is not quite halfway down the webpage.
I am going to put a LokPilot in the B unit.
John,
Here's a webpage from the ESU website showing the Loksound sound files for a search for "F7". Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but what you want is the "EMD 16-567BC" prime mover sound file and it was recorded directly from an EMD F7A, which is listed in the expanded portion when you click the "more..." in the description. When you order the decoder from TTE, make sure to select sound file "S0711" from the drop-down list.
Using the TCS website as a reference, it looks like the Loksound 5 Direct is a direct swap for the lightboard in your Athearn Genesis F7. However, just to be sure, I would measure the lightboard and compare its dimensions to the dimensions of the Loksound 5 Direct decoder. It should be exactly or nearly exactly the same in length & width.

If the engine is still using bulbs, you might want to use an 8-pin version decoder as the Athearn mother board has the voltage regulators already on it to properly drive the 1.5 volt bulbs. With the Direct board, you are going to have to calculate the proper resistor based on your track voltage (less 1.4 volts through the bridge) which is still questionable at best since bulbs are voltage driven devices unlike LEDs.

The 567BC was a conversion of the B-block engine for more reliable cooling. I do not know if there are audible differences between the BC and C-block engines.
If you're using ESU, there may be 'projects' for specific F-units, complete with correct horn and bell sounds. You should investigate this, and have the shop you buy the decoder from program it appropriately if you don't have a LokProgrammer or want to download the software to do the job.
FWIW: Not to take anything away from TTE, Litchfield Station has competitive pricing along with VERY reasonable S&H charges. I've been purchasing from them for years and have always been very happy with their service.
