Atlas NJT ALP45 DP
Posted by trainman07011 on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 9:07 AM

I'm having trouble getting my new Atlas ALP45DP locos programmed properly. There is no manual included with them or easily locatable online. The loco is equipped with a special dual mode (Elec/Diesel) sound package. The locos accelerate VERY slowly. Not at all appropriate for a commuter locomotive sprinting between stations. I have CV3 and CV4 set as low as possible and still they act as if they are starting a 2 mile long freight train. I would like to set momentum to 1 but I have no CVs and my NCE controller seems to have no effect. Please help!

Can you not turn momentum off completely?

It is indeed very inconvenient that they didn't include anything about DCC operation in the box.

You can try this

I really don't know if I can turn momentum to 0 or not. I try the usual way with my Power Cab and it doesn't seem to have any effect. I have no CVs; no manual. There is also an annoying "switcher" feature on F7 that is entirely inappropriate for a commuter passenger locomotive that I can't seem to disable. I have two of these locos acting the same way, so I don't believe the decoders are defective. After a minute or two, they will get up to speed, but not what you look for in a modern passenger loco. I will try some of the links provided by others to see if it helps.

This is the sort of thing you expect from B@****nn, not Atlas.

 What is programed in CV29? CV29 should be set to linear throttle instead of throttle curve. This way you are using CVs 2,5,&6.

 Go to the Loksound website and download the manual for the version 5 decoders. I assume you do not have a Lokprogrammer or using Decoder Pro? When I get some time, I can get you a list of CVs to change to disable shunting mode on F7.

  ESU Loksound allows you to download the Lok programmer software for you to use even if you don't have the programmer. There are YouTube videos showing how to use it without the hardware.

Here is the official ESU download page for the LokProgrammer software (PC-only, XP and later - 129.32MB):

Note that this page also contains other resources likely to be of interest.

   Here is the CV values you need to change to eliminate switching mode in F7

CV31=16

CV32=2

CV396=0
