Maybe a dumb question but does this allow your system to update the throttle and the DCS240 if I have a computer elsewhere? Or do I have to have a computer wired into the DCS?

It's strictly a device to use smartphones as throttles. It's not a computer interface to Loconet. For that you need a PR3 or a Locobuffer USB.

Read your manual.  The DCS240 has it's own USB interface built in.

Unfortunately, for us Mac guys, theres no convenient way to update any Digitrax hardware/firmware. JMRI has a tool that will update some things, but it’s a “use at your own risk” proposition (granted, risk is probably minimal—those JMRI guys are smart cookies, but...). Personally I don’t know anybody with a Windows laptop. My entire company is Mac, my wife’s entire company is Mac.  Heck, my brother is a high level IT guy and he uses a Mac laptop for personal use. Would be nice if Digitrax could/would make their updaters run via their mobile Toolbox apps.

Use Parallels or VMWare to run a Windows VM on the Mac.
