Postcript--
Yesterday I went back to the hobby shop and got a new AR1. The fellow behind the counter was a little sceptical that the unit was a dud, but after testing it thoroughly came to the same conclusion that Rich and I had--it's a really expensive pair of rail joiners! The new AR1 has been installed and trains are now running flawlessly through the wye.

Excellent and it is great to have a local hobby shop to stand behind what they sold and will take care of the return to Digitrax.

And, you're right, that is exactly what that dud was - - - a really expensive pair of rail joiners. LOL
