Bahcman GS4 low speed with DCC
Posted by gmh1953 on Sunday, November 28, 2010 9:49 AM

I recently installed an Tsunami TS 1000 in this unit, all the sound are great but the high end speed is very low. I have reset the decoder to factory defaults and use just the straight speed table. I there any way ti increase the high end speed of this unit?  As always any help is greatly appreciated.

Exactly how low speed are you talking?  You will lose a little with DCC but it should still run pretty good.

Did you remove the capacitors from the Bachmann board? With the caps on the board there will be erratic throttle.

I removed the entire board from the unit and wired directly to the exisiting plugs that went from the tender to the engine. On the digi trax system at the club the unit reaches about half speed on the throttle and will not go any faster.  Throttle says 99 but the unit stops advancing around 50 or so, crank it up from the 50 point and no increase in speed.

Thanks for the replys.

That sounds like a Bemf compensation issue.  I would first disable it completely and see if that makes any difference.  If that helps, but you still want to use bemf compensation, you can try adjusting it or set it to fade out at a certain speed step.

This si not the first post with poor runnign Bachmann steam with Tsunamis, although I thinkt he others were the factory installed Tsunami not an aftermarket one. It is some issue wuth the BEMF configuration - the Tsunami technical manual has a section on how to tune it, but it leaves a lot to be desired. It might be a good startign point though. Or, as suggested, just disable it and see if the results are satisfactory.
