BNSF Heritage paint colors
Posted by Kevin Beeler on Friday, October 27, 2006 1:00 AM
Hey all you BNSF nuts out there, I have a question for you. BNSF has two versions of it's Orange and Green paint scheme. They are commonly refered to as Heritage I and Heritage II. My question is are the actual paint COLORS the same, even though they are different schemes? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know the GN-inspired orange and green scheme used the same colors in both H1 & H2. The change was things like the striping, lettering size and the new ATSF-style herald (I liked the round one better). The latest "swoosh" BNSF scheme uses black instead of dark green, but I believe the orange is still the same.

As far as I know, both the BNSF 1and 2 phases of the paint scheme are based on the Great Northern paint scheme introduced in the late 1940s. Still a pretty eye catching paint scheme.

Yes the green and orange goes back to GN's first FT order in 1941...odd how that came to be called the "Empire Builder" scheme, when the Builder didn't wear it until after the war. It was all Pullman Green before that.
