Hi
I live in the UK and have toyed with the idea of constructing a narrow gauge layout for some time.Recently I saw a model of a narrow gauge loco called a Shay built by Bachmann.I would like to know some infomation on these locos as I have never seen one before?
Thanks

A shay is a geared loco generally used on logging and sometimes industrial roads.
It works by transfering motion to the wheels using vertical pistons, a driveshaft and gears as opposed to horizontal pistons and linked wheels. The small wheels of a shay ment that it goes slow but can negotiate sharp turns and rough track. Hope this helps!

Go Here:
http://www.trainweb.org/gearedsteam/index.htm
They have tons of information on standard or narrow gauge Shays. Watch out! I seen many people fall into narrow gauge fever after purchasing the Bachman Shay. (myself included)
Swampthing,
On30 is funner...
