Hello "daylight98,"
George Drury did a Paint Shop article on modeling the SP Olympic SD in the December 1986 MODEL RAILROADER, page 154. While that issue is probably out of print, you can order a photocopy of the article from customerserice@kalmbach.com.
Best wishes,
Andy

The paint is blue. I'm using Conrail Blue with a little bit off Reffer White added to lighten up the color. (Flouqil paint) I just sent you the pics hope it helps.

The Kato SD40 recently released is very accurate for the "Olympic" SD40R loco. Other than the loss of the "L" windshield there was no signifigant change to the appearance of the loco as part of the rebuilding.
You can also order Kato part 922048 (SD40 Handrail set, CR blue) to avois paintiong and then flaking paint from handrails. This may cause you to attempt matching the paint to the handrails but the Conrail blue is fairly accurate.
This leaves the parts tha seperate on the Kato easy to paint. Frame CRblue, Handrails no need to paint, carbody primer then white, finally mask the ends for SP Scarlet and let the Microscale decal set 60-464 take care of the nose feathers. Finish with logos and other data from 60-464,the warning labels and such can be found on 60-11 SP / Cotton Bely 1958-84 diesels.
Build notes are for N-Scale but all items are represented in HO also.
SP7347 was wrecked and vacated from the roster after in a head on collision just a month after returning to Scalet and Gray paint in July 1985.
A few more photos from Richard Percy's site in Australia:
