ALCO PA-1 B unit Paint scheme
Posted by JRP on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 1:05 PM

Hi.  ALCO PA's got a paint change in the late fifties I believe from Daylight colors to "Lark" dark Gray and bloody nose.  Does anyone know how the PA-B unit was painted?  Was it also "Lark" dark gray?  Was Southern Pacific also painted on the sides like the PA-1 lead unit was?  I have been online all over and could not find any photos of the B unit from that time.  Any help from you prototype guys would be appriciated. Thank you.

Rapido has the B-units in matching gray, no red, no 'Southern Pacific' lettering as on the As, small white number on the rear carbody side.

I believe they know what they're doing.  I'll go with that.  Thanks Overmod.

This PDF has the best picture I could find of a real SP PB. I make no promises about the safety of the link.

Overland Models and Key Imports also produced SP PA/PB units in the lark gray scheme, and they also had no red or road name, just the unit number.
