I am working on painting the figures in my P2k E7s. I decided that I should paint at least some of the interior of the locomotive. What color should I paint it?
Perhaps someone can describe the color and/or whether it varies by RR. The google search provides some interior shots:

I did one myself, but I got 3 different shades of gray (that were not train sim screenshots) 1 tan and 1 century green, that I assume is from a preserved NYC unit. My P2K E7s are BM units. Ive got videos of cab rides in wait a minute....I might have a color video... I was thinking the only cab ride view I had was from the BM Railroad Show, but Im pretty sure I have another video in color... Will have to look after lunch.
It would be good to know if someone has actual first hand knoledge or has seen color photos, as videos can and have been "colorized" but you can usually tell.
I would assume that MEC units would have the same interior colors, if memory serves the E units were a joint order with BM.
Videos dont definitely dont show seat color, was there an EMD standard or was it RR specific?

Yes, in color, but video was taken with the interior out of the field of view, so my question stands I guess.
The interior color, much like the exterior color, was specified by the purchasing railroad. The question is not what color did EMD paint the interiors of E units, the real question is what color did the BM paint the interior of its deisels (EMD diesels in particular). Doesn't really matter which model.

Thanks Mike. Probably go with an acrylic gray. Should be pretty easy to cover if I find some other color that is more accurate.
The cab interior of the Soo Line F7 I rode in, 'way back in the '50s, was gray, as is the interior of my Rich Yoder GE 70-tonner. However, many steam loco cabs back in the day had some shade of green inside, according to Mel Thornburgh, who wrote so many excellent construction articles for MR, and I believe some roads opted for that color in their early Diesels.

Probably the same shade as this Wabash F7 #671 in the Mad River Museum in Bellevue, Ohio.
I have a photo of my son in the cab of a B&M F unit taken back in '86 but it is so back-lit that it is of marginal use. Many of the NYC/Penn Central F7s I was in were deep green and the engine rooms were suede gray.

I do have a paint and lettering print for a New York Central E7 ant it specifies Du Pont Dulux Green Enamel 88-6202 in the operating cab.

Generally the "default" color for any railroad interior occupied by people (engine cab, caboose, passenger car, roundhouse, depot, etc.) would be a light green or grayish green, sometimes called "Industrial Green". Perhaps the closest available paint would be Tamiya's "Cockpit Green" - it was a common color inside of airplanes, hangars, etc. too.
