Hi everyone. My project is moving on. I have now put together a list of the industries on my layout with the cars that would be serviced at each. However, I would like some ideas as to what I have missed.
Can you go to the Test Layout page of my project web site and have a look at my ideas. I can't extend the industries but I can get more cars.
Any help would be most welcome.

Have you considered dedicated cars between a rr and a shipper or receiver? For example NYC and PRR each contributed dedicated cars to Ge appliance division in Kentucky. Many cars have a notice, "return to agent in a city and state".
Sort of with the reefers and the ice house but, yes, I had missed that. It will be a nice bit of complexity to the code.
Many thanks for the heads up.

Blums Lumber: also gondola, bulkhead flat, centerbeam flat (choice of era would modulate car choices)
Sunset and Burgess Mfg: depending on product, also flat, gondola
O. H. Wright Packing: stock cars if they slaughter, meat reefers if they don't, meat reefers if they ship out--box car?????
Greene's Feed--perhaps covered hopper if a late era

just guessing; the packing plant could use gons for waste, tankers for boiler fuel the feed dealer could use box cars set up for grain, witch are a little different then just box cars
UNCLEBUTCH feed dealer could use box cars set up for grain, witch are a little different then just box cars

The classic 40' box car with a 6' door was used for grain. There was nothing special about them. Special grain-loading boxcars were in the minority. They DID exist, though. And are very interesting.
No, I had forgotten that aspect. I will include some settings on the car definitions to make that possible. Many thanks.

Technically those "When empty return to ......" assignments only apply to specially equipped cars (load divider, insulated, covered hoppers, specially equipped gons, rotary hoppers, auto loaders, tank cars, plug doors, etc). General service cars (regular boxcars, hoppers, gons, flat cars) are not assigned and would not be stenciled. They would be handled through car service rules.

An exception to this would be "clean" box cars in captive newsprint service. MEC's were stenciled "For Newsprint Loading Only".
Also OH Wright Packing would receive stock cars or refrigerator cars (if it is a meat packing plant).
