Does anybody here know what colors the Southern Railway used on the interior of it's heavyweight coaches in the late 40's to early 50s? I looking for wall, floor, and seat colors and have come up blank.
You may want to look at the Yahoo group Passenger Car List if you have not already. I checked some some past messages and found this was one of many discussion topics back in March 2011. Unfortunately I could not come up with your answer.
I volunteer at the Southeastern Railway Museum and there are other volunteers who would either know off the bat or point us in the right direction. I should be there again before the end of the Year and I'll look into it if you still need the info.

Hello Derrick,
I was at the Museum today (Thursday 12/29) and uncovered the following. We have two Southern RR heavyweight coaches on the property and I checked both of them .
#1078 built in 1922 by Pullman. Modernized by Southern in 1935 and 1955. Seats 46. Donated 1971 #1212 built in 1917 by Pullman. Modernized in 1940 and 1953. Seats 44. Donated in 1968.
Colors noted: Both cars appeared the same.
Floor: Gray linoleum type with red tiles down center walkway.
Walls: A bluish gray (eggshell blue?)
End Walls: institutional type green, almost jade green
Window Shades: Blue described by another member as close to a nickel plate blue.
Seats: Paired seats one reddish brown the other grayish blue.
It was a light day today for the volunteers with the Holidays. I have sent out some e-mails to try and further identify the names of these colors and the prior paint scheme. Unfortunately the photos I took did not come out.

Thanks for the pictures; they bring back memories of my riding between Bristol and Chattanooga in the late fifties (as well as other trips on the Southern)..
There was another rebuild of coaches that had adjustable headrests as well as footrests. One thing I really appreciated on Southern coaches was the folding center armrest, which made it possible to make use of the footrest or to sleep across the two seats if both were available.
