Canadian Pacific Script Lettering
Posted by hon30critter on Thursday, April 9, 2009 10:27 PM

Does anyone know the name for the font used by Canadian Pacific for their 'script' lettering? Also, are there any HO scale decals available in white in this script? (If this post shows up twice, I apologize - I tried to post it once but it didn't show up). Thanks. Dave

Dave

CPR script began use in 1963 I believe. Not sure about decal availability, though Micro Scale should have some; but there are dry transfer sets available. Set # 24, 40 ft steel box; set # 31 twin hopper; set # 42 wood or steel caboose; set # 104 50 ft steel auto-boxcar; set # 121 40 ft steel reefer; set # 190 40 ft PS1 box, Int'l of Maine Div.; set #193 40 ft insulated box;set #296 diesel switcher; set #297 diesel roadswitcher; set #298 diesel cab units; set #543 slab-side covered hopper; set #638 triple hopper; and more. These are CDS sets, and were/are very good quality - contact sales@tmrdistributing.com with your 'want list' and scale. They will advise up to date availability, $, and shipping. Pacific Pike made some excellent decal sets, but it'll take some searching to find any available new sets. Hope this helps; good luck.

I know this won't be a real help decal wise, but if you're looking to print any other CP logos in their current lettering scheme, here's a hint. I know on Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, there is a font titled "Bank Gothic" which is a dead ringer for the current CP font. Here's a site with a sample of what it looks like: http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/bank-gothic/

If you don't have it, you can probably find a download for it. Like I said, not much good for decals, unless you print them yourself, but it would work great for printing signs, timetables, all that kind of stuff.

Champ still has several CPR script decal sets available....

http://www.minot.com/champ/cp-ho.htm

CDS makes dry transfers for just about any Canadian railway or paintscheme....

http://www.tmrdistributing.com/CDS-AC.htm#cpr

CDS says that the script lettering started in 1959....

Whoops, I realize I misinterpreted the question being asked. I didn't recognize the term "script" lettering referring to  that specific style. You can disregard my comment.

Dave, another great source of decals for the big Canadian road names is Black Cat Decals. TMR Distributing also carries this line of decals. These decals are the waterslide type and are similar to Microsale's.

FWIW. Canadian Pacific's boxcar paint schemes are as follows:

Spans The World----- introduced in 1947

3 Step Gothic----- introduced in 1951 as painting the Spans The World is too expensive (masking)

Canadian Pacific Script------- 1963

CP Rail Action colours------1969
