Trackside Industries along CSX near Cleveland
Posted by CSX_road_slug on Thursday, August 21, 2008 8:24 PM

A question for natives of North Central Ohio:

I'm trying to find out if there are any small industries along the CSX main line between Cleveland,  and Seville, OH, that still use rail service.  I saw some spurs into large complexes when I viewed the area with GoogleEarth, but most areas were too 'fuzzy' to see clearly.

What I really hope to find is some industries where the spur parallels the mainline track.

(Theres several hotlinks built into this thread.  Just click and go!)

Well, here's the 84 Lumber just outside of Seville, OH.  I use Windows Live Search a lot more then Google Earth.  The resolution is higher I think, and the Birdseye and 3D views are a HUGE help.

Also, you're a member on the Rails Of The World website.  Contact "CSX AC6000CW" over there.  Thats Rich.  He lives in Akron and he knows tons of stuff about all of the rail lines in the whole area and can probably get you pics if you need them.

Thank you Phillip, I just sent a PM to Rich on the ROTW forum.  I'll have to try out that Windows Live Search tool on some of the other locations as well, excellent detail on that!

Ken-I railfan at Sterling (a few miles S of Seville) as much as possible when I can afford the gas to get there!

Tentative plans are (since I have a few vacation days next week) is to either head up there either Wednesday or Sunday (when some of the other railfans show up) PM me if you need me to check anything out a little closer.

<Avatar from where the CL&W (the line you're interested in) branches off from the New Castle sub-the train is the Q354 heading N to Cleveland/Collinwood.

Mitch - I was hoping I'd hear from you!Cool [8D]  Since you live in Massillon, I figured you'd be quite familiar with that region.

I'll send you a PM with more details.

Portage Limestone. They are located between Steetsboro and Kent on state route 43.I'm not sure but I think they use part of the old Erie Lackawanna and join the CSX/B&O.
