I'm repainting some hooker chemical tank cars, would like some recommendations about what orange to use. Tru-color or any and all others.
The one on RRpicturesarchives.net has KD couplers! The only pics I can find are of models. It looks like most are an International orange, the rest are a faded orange.
To me, the heavily weathered models look better than the freshly built look. Color is very subjective and how it appears is a photo reproduction is variable. I would pick a paint you like to work with in orange.
The RR specific oranges are hard for me to find locally so I would go with International. If I wanted the faded look I would try adding white, (test first) or go with straight orange followed by a dilute white or gray via airbrush.

Hello all,
I would begin with Safety Orange.
The True-Color Paint number is TCP-313.
Then weather accordingly.
Hope this helps.
"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"
I'd contact Tangent Scale Models and find out their sources and subsequent paint formulation, perhaps including Pantone nearest equivalent or other colorimetric numbers.
As noted, how the actual Hooker orange weathered over time will be of interest to modelers, although I doubt this specific line of research has been actually done yet. I have always wanted to see a 'chemical' discussion of common weathering effects in paint and pigments for modeling purposes.
BigDaddy The only pics I can find are of models.
The two Morning Sun books on tank cars by James Kincaid have orange Hooker Chemical tank car photos. Vol 1 is page 35 (weathered) and the cover. Vol 2 is pages 11 (fairly new), 24 (weathered), 75 (factory fresh), 83 (fairly new).
I'd say various shades of orange all seem to have a basis in one or another of these photos

Testors orange followed by dull coat would probably be real close...
Buy a RTR Hooker tank car (BLI, Atlas, others?). Bring said unit to Home Depot or Lowes paint mixing counter. Ask them to carefully scan the car with their paint sample scanner. Get the smallest container of paint in whatever finished. I touched up an INRD CF-7 like this, came out alright.
