This is a homemade contraption built by NYCT.
Why is told on another thread, but I figured you might not see it there.

Ah yes. It was used by NYCT's human resources department to conduct performance reviews of employees. They'd swing them out over the hot third rail and then ask if they were satisfied with their current wages and benefits. If they said yes, they were brought back in and allowed to ride on the front platform. If they said no .... well, nobody ever said no under those circumstances so we don't know what the consequence would have been.

A bird's name. Maximilian his name was. Shortened to Max. Learned to say his name. Also liked Sam and Dave, and learned to say "I'm a soul man", which he shortened to Max Man. Lived with us for about 23 years. A sad day when he passed. Better half and I still grieve.
In re: him be hungry, if him bite me him get ptomaine.

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
It's Br. Lion's way, to always talk in third person. But how many other monks can you name that are model railroaders? And even more so, is such a specific niche as subway modeling!

KID you really need to learn a little Respect for your elders
Butch, what do you mean respect your elders??? I didn't say ANYTHING disrespectful!!!
Randy, Lion is a Monk? That's a very interesting fact.
Yes, search his threads. He has lots of pictures of his layout and stuff. Large space to work in, too. But he's also amazingly frugal - lots of repurposed materials, and home made bits, but the overall effect makes for one neat looking layout. It may be easier to appreciate if you've lived in NYC, or at least visited enough to ride the subway, but the various stations are quite realistic looking. And the whole thing is automated with nary a computer it sight. He's even had a modeling tip published in MR, not too long ago.
That's pretty cool, I meant no disrespect in my comment, just to be clear.
It's an Incogno-tron. By the wonder of technology, shrunken to a small enough size to be built in to and transportet by rail car. But in confined spaces, like tunnels and subways, the effect can be concentrated enough to work just outside the device as well.
Proof? Look closely at the passenger's faces...

I have a good friend who's a (Catholic) deacon, and a model railroader, and he has a good friend who's a priest and a model railroader. Does any of that count?

Methinks him confuse Yoda and LOLcat-meme speak with Brother Lion's sometimes unusual locutions. Judge him not, lest ye yourself be found tasty.
For those irritated, as I am, with circumlocutions rather than information:
But what if the tracks, structures and tunnels are already in place???? This contraption was made by the New York City Transif Authority. They cut in half a 60' car and extended it to 75' and gave it the contour of the new 75' subway cars. They then ran it through the tunnels to see where it would fit and where it would not. If any of the fingers touched the wayside, the wayside had to be altered to accommodate the new vehicles, and if it could not be altered, then the new cars could not pass through those tunnels. Most frequently the issues were add-on conduits, misplaced signals and stuff like that. The only real problem was the curve coming off of the Williamsburg bridge. The train could pass either way on either track without problem, but if TWO such trains tried to pass each other on that curve the conflict would be rather entertaining. Thus the 75s could not operate on the Jamaica line. This car is no longer in the fleet, in fact while there are still 75' cars running on the subway, they will not be reordered, all future cars will be 60' on the IND / BMT and 50' on the IRT.
