B&O Ohio Division
Posted by rbrockjr on Thursday, February 15, 2018 2:01 PM

I'm planning a proto-lance, transition era, layout based on the B&O Ohio Division between Chillicothe, OH and Parkersburg, WV.

I like the rural nature and scenic possibilities of this stretch. However, information regarding customers/industries in some of the small towns is hard to come by.

Does anyone have any insight to this area? Or "offline" resources?

Thanks!

I know there are a bazillion books on B&O and there are probably reviews, somewhere.  Since I'm not up to snuff on the reviews, when I see these books at trains shows or Ebay, I don't know if they are good books or decent prices.

The B&O Historical Society might be a good place to start

If you went west instead of east, you would be able to model Greenfield, OH which for a small town had a myriad of industries like the Patterson Motor Car Co., numerous furniture factories, rock quarry, a huge factory that made padded horse collars (and life vests during WWII. It's all gone now but very viable in the steam era.  Also had an interchange with the DT&I.  The Historical Society has a layout of the city built by Tom Adams who has researched and included everything that was in the city railroadwise. I have a number of pictures of that layout when I visited Greenfield a year ago.

Rule 1: This is my railroad.

Rule 2: I make the rules.

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!

See if you can find copies of B&O Form 6. Reprints were available from the B&O Museum several years ago. These list all industries and important points on the various lines of the B&O.

dti406 this is great stuff and right up my alley as to what I hope to model in my next layout. I am aiming to model Greenfield OH to Midland City, albeit in a compressed form.

Thanks! I will look into B&O Form 6.  It sounds like a great resource!

Thanks for the info on Greenfield.  I may extend west to include it.

I didn't know that Yahoo groups were still a thing.  I'll check it out, thanks!

There is at least one Ohio steam in the 1950s train video from GSVP.
