I found in my copy of Maine Central Locomotive register a feedwater heater designation of EK-39. Is this an Elesco feedwater heater?
Andrew,
I have paged through several volumes of the International Textbook series on the Locomotive, the 1940 Locomotive Builder's Cyclopedia and a 1925 instruction book for Installation, Operation, Maintenance and Repair of Elesco Locomotive Superheaters and I did not see any reference to EK-39 anywhere.
There is a CF type pump listed, a DL-6 type pump, a type H and a type K closed heater (heat exchanger tube bundle)
I can provide you with copies of any of this information if you would like.

Ed,
It seems to be a MEC (possibly also B&M) designation for the feed water heater. By deduction and with the information you provided and with information from steam locomotive.com, I suspect that the EK-39 designation listed in my MEC Locomotive Data book is a Elesco type K feedwater heater. I can only begin to guess at what the 39 means. May be a question for B&MRRHS.
Thank you
Andrew
