Peerless Industries reverser for shelf layout

I am in the planning stages of a Ho shelf layout. The size will be 16" x 12'. at one end I have 42" available and would like to construct a turn around loop(thanks for the help on my previous ? with this). I am interested in some sort of an automatic reverser to allow continous operation. The Walthers catalog lists such a devise by Peerless Industries, page 303 part # 564-525. Does anyone have any experience with this device? Can it work with out dcc? Is there any better alternative for this type of operation?
