Woodland Scenic foam risers
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 30, 2007 10:09 PM

Why can't Woodland Scenic make there foam risers more uniform? I bought a scenic ridge kit, and decided to change it some, bought some more of the 2" risers to add onto, and there about 1/8" taller than what came with the kit.  What is a best way to level them off and try to keep the top flat and even?

You could clamp 2 wooden blocks either side of the riser to the actual height you want the riser to be,then run a hot wire cutter along the riser using the blocks as a guide. The guide blocks will help maintain the same height along the length of the riser

Yep, I agree. I've bought plenty of WS foam stuff and there are differences.

I have found that my Dremel with the router attachment and using a drum shaped sharpening stone bit, adjusted to the proper depth works.

I've actually put turnouts on these risers and used the Dremel to rout out the white foam so I can drop a tortoise motor flush into the foam.

Hope that helps.
