I have an empty space between the station and the commissary building
and i am at a loss for ideas of what to put there
I thought of an Ice House to supply reefers but the platforms are too long.
Ideas any one ?

Yes it is Andy, both the station and platform are just temporary Wathers built ups
I'm looking for photos of the station at MT Hope WVA
I'm not even sure it had a covered platform
But i'm sure a longer one would look alot better

You beat me to it. As I am placing structures on my layout, that is one thing I am keeping in mind. Granted that I don't want a bunch of blacktop space on the layout just for parking lots but some of the larger structures will look more realistic with a small lot and a few cars.

Dang. The two of you beat me to it.
A parking lot does more than just fill space with asphalt and cars. It sets a mood as well. The cars themselves probably do a better job of setting your era than anything on the tracks. A trip to Wal-Mart can put you in the Eisenhower administration with a couple of 56 Chevies, or some Jordan vehicles could put you decades earlier. It's an opportunity for a few "people scenes" as well - people running for the train, lovers greeting each other, young hoodlums hanging out.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
It appears you have some complex trackwork in that area. What about an interlocking tower and maybe a section house? Although I see you alread have a speeder shed.

MisterBeasley & jbinkley60,
I was always told that great minds think alike! Now we have proof!

Only because there's not enough space for a brewery.
Terry - A logical choice for that space, being immediately adjacent to a station on secondary trackage, might be either a REA or a U.S.Mail facility. This would be quite appropriate if you are modeling any era prior to say 1960 (the water tower suggests that you probably are), when both these outfits were big-time shippers by rail.

Terry,
Here is an example of a handsome and "longer" active station. I have more photos, if you are interested. It is the NJT station (former Erie, restored) in Rutherford, NJ.

Why is the watering spout on a siding with a speeder shed? I would have the spout right up next to the station so the locomotive could take on water while the passengers were un/loading. Save a bunch of time in the schedule rather than having to cut the loco off just to get water.

One doesn't want to mix a block of reefers in with all the passenger equipment that would be high priority around a commisary and the station. I agree with the others. Extend the passenger platform, and maybe put some cars or trucks parked in beside the commisary. Why is the watering spout on a siding with a speeder shed? Not enough space for a brewery, but plenty of space for an ale house!

Thanks for all your ideas
As several suggested i went ahead and replaced the short passenger shed with a longer one
The rest of the space will be a parking lot
Good excuse to buy some cars

Terry;
How about a platform for milk cans? These were quite common in the '40's. You could have an old beater pickup full of cans backed up to the platform, and several cans on the platform.

Milk cans
Not a bad idea thanks
