Posted by mgruber on Thursday, December 14, 2006 10:55 PM
Does anyone have a web site that I can go to to download pics of buildings that can be used for a background. I did a Google search and not much there as far as stuff to use. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Backdropwarehouse.com has many you can download and print.... but you have to buy the very high res ones, thats how they make their money, but they do look worth the expense. Several building/city/town scenes

Regards
Karl.

A CD of backgrounds, landscapes, buildings, etc. is available at:

geocities.com/larcproducts

There is an ad on p. 20 of the Jan '07 MR.

You can find many building types from shacks to factories online. I like to copy and paste from ebay. This building was coppied from an ebay auction for a postcard. You can paste the image into a publisher desk top and resize for your scale!

I've got the Larc products CD and it has a lot of good scenes and buildings on it.

One quirk is that they are stored as Word document files, not as individual graphics files. That can make it easy or hard to use, depending on your level of expertise with computers.

For larger scales, I think you'd need to take them to a commercial printer to get a big enough copy for a backboard.

In the current MR magazine, there is an article describing how the modeler took photos of individual buildings and mounted them on 1/4" foam board and mounted them on his backdrop. That little bit of depth did a lot to create the illusion that they were 3 dimensional. With a digital camera, you shouldn't have any trouble finding good buildings to photograph.
