11 x 21 Track Plan Redo From Scratch
Posted by Hawk007 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 7:58 AM

Hello All,

I have a area 11 x 21 to play with,  I had a 22 x 28 but that got scrapped when someone wanted a extra room that needed built,  so I have to re start to build it.  here are, or is what I would like to have, and have in the layout.

Its a HO layout. and I am pertty much with back to a skeleton of a table, with tons of lumber to play with now.  and a lot of foam board to play as well.  but will not use foam for the base.

1)  I have a dozzen 2-6-6-2YB's
2)  I have 31 Berkshires
3)  I have 5 Heavy Pacifics
4)  I have 5 GP35's
5)  I have 2 F-9A & B Units
6)  I have 7 Saddlebacks Switchers
7)  I have 1 Walthers 130' Turntable  1 Walthers 90' Turntable ( though I will probally not use the 90 for anyting.
8)  I have in rolling stock about17 cattle / livestock cars,  10 Pullmans, 40+ box / reffers, ( none over the standard )12 flatcars, 19 Cabooses, about 40+ other rolling stock.39 Coal cars, 11 Gondolas.
9)  I have several Farm / Livestock buildings with ramps.
10)I have 1 Grain Tower, 2 Mine Towers, 2 Coaling towers ( to fill gondolas, and coal cars)
11) I have several Industrial buildings here and there to play with
12) 3+ Passenger Stations
13) All of it is DCC Except for the switches, and TT  ( I would rather deal with those on my own, than play with my controler to do switching.
14) 2 Reverse Loop DCC, 22 Block Detectors, 4 Blocks ( meaning 4 powerpacks and Command Stations) Boosters
16) 1 Swing Bridge, 1 Cantalever bridge, 1 Bascule Bridge, and many "sons of baby" bridges both out of box and some scratch built wooden bridges.
15)  I have gone double level before,  but with thses new dimentions,  LOL its sort of got me stuck

1 small detail,  there is a door on the longer side about 8.5 feet with a opening of 3.5 feet to deal with otherwise its un obstructed

Heres what I am looking for.  1 Main line,  with say with a few  passing tracks,  meduim to large yard,  though thats open ,  the useage of the 130' TT is a must to store all the monsters I have LOL and I have the roundhouse to build around it as well, I have I believe at last count 3 sections of 6 stalls and 1 engine shop to fit next to the RH.

The Challange is to get a working track plan that I can dork on, with a small limitation,  I am handicapped, yet that would not stop me from building it,  right now all I have left it a parcial skelton base without a top on it yet.  that sits about 36" high

The reward,  to help me to design a working layout that will be filled with having some fun.  Though I lost some area because of a room addition in the basement.

I asked it here for some help because I know there are a lot of talented people here that would be able to help me out.  and besides it will cause less bickering in the forums if there was someting to focus on a bit.  the reward to help a old gent out thats handicapped and the greatfullness in doing so.

God Bless in Advance

Ray

your best first step if you want help designing the layout would be to get one of the track layout programs like RTS from atlas or xtracad , and draw out the room dimensions and any benchwork you've already done . that way no one spends a lot of time dreaming up a plan only to find out it wouldn't fit what you've done already .

also some info on the time period and location or which prototype railroad you're interested in .

that's probably all the help i'm going to be on this , i'm an amateur when it comes to layout design
