Got to a few construction sites. They trim off and throw away gobs of the stuff. You probably won't get any 4x8 sheets, but you'll get enough little pieces to do what you need. And the best part,....it's FREE!!!!!!

Oh, and remember, if you're doing rough "land" contours, you can fill the insides of hills and mountains with the cheap beaded type styrofoam. Just add a layer of the pink stuff over top to do your carving.

I have found bits beside the highway where it blew off trucks. I found about 6 sheets of 2" once. Recently I found some yellow stuff at a construction site. It seems to be the same though maybe just a little heavier. I found if you tell the foreman it is for a model railroad, you get more, if you listen to their story of when they were little and had model trains.
If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/ARTHILL/ Art

Wow that's funny. I totally forgot how much was wasted when they built the new library downtown Vamcouver. You could get a pickup truck of it every couple of days. And the garbage bins are loaded with it in any construction area there too. Just ask first though. Here you can get arrested for 'stealing garbage'.
