In a recent purchase of several HO scale brass switchers, was an Alco S1. I went on a hunt for shortlines and industries that use this old girl and stumbled on the fact that the huge International Harvester Hamilton Works in Canada used one for in plant switching. She still exhists, retrucked with AAR trucks now but in the same paint scheme sans the IH logos on the NY&LE shortline. So, my model will be off the custom painter next week and I am thinking of a small switching layout to take to shows, something for table top use(ie no legs). The Hamilton works would be like modeling a small steel mill, it was huge from the few photos that show the complex from the air. So it would be a small glimpse of the plant. Maybe a loading dock scene with the plant being a low relief/false front as several tracks went inside for loading during the severe Canadian winters. Looking for ideas and suggestions. Looking for something no longer than a typical 6' show table. I do have some unbuilt N scale T track modules that might be usable for this to keep it lightweight. I worked next door to Harvester, at Stelco, and that locomotive always looked pristine.
