Presenting the HO Red Wing Division Build Thread
Posted by bmikes9900 on Thursday, July 14, 2016 8:28 PM

Hey Guys.  Awhile back I asked for some track plan advice on a plan I drew up.  I appreciate all the feedback!  After sitting on the plan for a few days and taking into consideration the feedback I decided to revisit a (kind of) obsure track plan from the 90's.  Model Railroaders very own (SOO) Red Wing Division from Dec. 1994.  Taking a cue from the Virginian Build Thread, I'll post updates here ocassionally.

I made just a few modifications from the original plan.  First being, the passing track in front of the depot.  Trimmed that WAY back to the other end...a few extra inches of room for the town.  I redesigned the "city branch" so that a local could work the industries and (theoretically) run around a train of two or three cars and maybe a caboose before heading back around to the yard.

For those not familiar here is the original. Whenever I see a new plan, I try to imagine working it. On the original, the "City branch" as you call it, looks like it would have been a nightmare to work. Glad you decided to modify it. Hope it works for you.

Maybe not so smart an idea, as you gain very little actually usable real estate for your town, but lose at least two car lengths on the max. train length.

I have roughly the same version, but in N scale. Nice!
