Any track planner recomendations
Posted by rs2mike on Thursday, December 10, 2015 1:02 PM

father in law is all syked up about building a layout in a new addition being added to the house. I am wondering if there is anyone you all recommend to do some track planning for him. Looking at a good price, good work in planning and able to answer rookie questions abou the plan.

thanks

mike

Plenty, plenty of folks open to providing ideas.  We need to know room dimensions, era, what you looking to do, etc. This is an iterative process, so just expect some questions to consider.

And dont take negative remarks as criticism.  I have gotten a lot of help on my layout and some of the negative comments were absolutely on target.

Try Byron Henderson. I designed my basic plan, but he provided very helpful consultation.

Thanks for the input guys.  I would post the dimensions of the room via graph paper but photobucket and myself have issues.  I use an iphone and that does not play well either. The imac does not play well either when trying to upload pics.  Tried that last week.  Any suggestions

Try the photobucket app for the iPhone.  I used it without trouble before switching to Android (which I regret, btw)

I have the right to remain silent.  By posting here I have given up that right and accept that anything I say can and will be used as evidence to critique me.

complete fail with photobucket,  I downloaded the app and it intstantly downloaded all 895 of my pics on my phone.  that was 890 too many.  My photobucket account online is only for model train stuff.  I dont post any personal photos online.  So that was a couple hours lost erasing all the photos from a stupidly slow app..

So would anyone be willing to message me their personal email and I will email pics to them and let you all post it for me.

Thanks

Mike

Here are Mike's pictures.  I'll let him explain them.

Thanks Carl

the first pic is the whole room with 1 square equalmto one foot.  The next three are blown up to 3 squares equalmto one foot.  The c section tomthenleft is the area to house the layout. The area to the right is off limits. Potential siding of 1' wide down the wall as shown with the furnace.

Any thoughts?

Nevermind, I misunderstood your explanation.  Ill work on it on the train.

Edit: What are you looking for: running trains in circles or point to point or both?  Also if the C shape was narrowed/changed in size and dual purpose for space (layout above new storage shelves/book shelves etc) established, could the layout space occupy different but similar sqaure footage or is the space leasee stuck with the negotiated space as drawn?  Finally what height above floor will the layout be?

busy day last couple of days.  He is looking for a circle layout but with the 3 sidings it would/could be point to point.  The space is the space.  He has negotiated as much as he can get.  The table height will be 40" or so.  Planning on cabnitery and shelving under for additional storage.( you would not believe the amount of crap they have that needs to be thrown away).  The no touch side is for clothing storage and canned food storage(he is a chef and they cook a lot).

He would like a logging layout and now has decided he wants multiple decks which i am trying to talk him out of.  I do not think he has the space to get up to a second level.  My thoughts were down the one wall with the door would be a logging siding crossing over a river scene.  Down the wall in the no touch room behind the furnace would be a 2 track siding for an unseen logging mill.  And down the wall with the door a furnature maker building and siding.   The rest is up in the air.  He want a lot of wooded scenery for the logging but also wants a nice town section with building and houses.  Kinda like our town of Medina Ohio.  The room is not finished yet above the basement.  This is an add on to the house.  He has somehow managed to talk the builder into roughing in the benchwork which I am also trying to talk him out of until he finishes the room off in drywall and lighting and painting.
