Does anyone know what happened to the production or why Marklin stopped making this type of catenary? When did they start making them and how many years ago were they giving up. The tin plate catenary was given up by Marklin already many years ago, along with the introduction of their "new" track system (C-Track). The new catenary is much more in line with the prototype, but not as close as the Sommerfeldt line of products.
Thanks I see. When did they start making them How many years ago were they giving up. I will need them for their ruggness and robustness.
Don't know if etching was the process used, as they may have been stamped. However, shouldn't be too hard to have some etched to meet your needs. Won't be cheap, but might work for you if you can't find enough old stock? The patterns/plans would be relatively simple to make compared to many other model railroad items.

I had a friend who used this on his layout back in the '70's (I think). It was very sturdy and reliable. And kinda klunky looking. And reliable.
I would hesitate using it because you might find that the last three pieces you need are unobtainable. I recommend you learn all about the stuff--all the different pieces and how they work. And then make a list of what you need. And then figure if you're ever going to be able to collect it. And then decide.

Production of the stamped sheet metal catenary stopped over 15 years ago. The only place I think you´ll be able to find it is the German "Fleabay".
Marklin´s new catenary system can be adapted to the old tin-plate track (M-Track), if this is your issue.

Marklin cranked out this style of catenary (stamped) for many years. I just did an Ebay search on the US site that turned up nearly 300 hits. I would think there is enough of this stuff available on the secondary market to do many layouts.
I sold a bunch of the (older) style catenary on Ebay years ago...
