Wheel Works ho metal vehicles
Posted by wdcrvr on Saturday, March 15, 2014 9:33 PM

I just purchased some Wheel Works kits and I am wondering if there are any tips I should be aware of when I get ready to paint them?  Will I be able to use acrylics on them?  Do I need to do anything to prep the metal?  Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind any tips on putting the little buggers together.  Can I use ACC or is there a better glue for this purpose?

Thanks

I picked up what's probably a Wheel Works kit at my LHS - it was in a clear plastic bag with no identification or instructions, and missing one of the stake panels.  Since it was suitable for my '30s-era layout and cheap, I bought it.  Not really too much to it, and it was easily assembled using ca - epoxy would likely also work.  I used strip styrene to fabricate a replacement for the missing panel:

After cleaning-up the castings, I washed them in warm water and dish detergent, and once assembly was complete, gave the truck an airbrushed coat of Floquil grey primer.  The finished colours are either Floquil or Pollyscale, also applied with an airbrush.

Wdcrvr,

I have built quite a few white metal casting vehicles, mainly Lee Town, which is no longer made and have had great success using, ZAP-A-GAP Medium CA+,applied with Microbrush Applicators, purchased from here:

Along with Waynes suggestions for finishing.

Have Fun!
