R-17 GOH
Posted by BroadwayLion on Sunday, July 1, 2012 10:59 AM

(an R-17 is a subway car -- A GOH is a "General Overhaul"... performed by a railcar rebuilder)

The LION is rebuilding some subway cars. In this incarnation the couplers are removed: Draw Bars are installed. Four conductors are placed between each car. One pair is the traction power--can you say 48 wheel pickup. The other pair is the lighting system. On the lead car there is a full wave rectifier, and a 5 volt regulator. Each car has 2 white LEDs and several 0.33 FARAD capacitors. These will keep the lights on while the train is stopped.

The stack of washers add weight to each car and support the new circuit board. I stack the washers, and then inject silicone caulk into the hole and place the board on top. After a day it is SOLID. To control the weight, choose the correct diameter washers.

Since this train has only one traction motor, I have applied bullfrog snot to all of the drive wheels.
