you've got a great plan to build, though I have two questions.
Where is the track from the wye along the elevator leading to? Since staging is reached through the helix.
The elevator is very hard to switch, two rather long tracks in front of the elevator, while the lead is very short. Up to a change?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Back in the 80s I visited Cairns and rode the Cairns Karunda Railway. Pretty cool. Seeing your in Queensland brought back the memory. Good luck on your layout. Keep us posted.

One of the neatest helix constructions I have seen in a while.
I hear there is a bit of work over there at the moment. I wonder will you model the electric coal trains out to the north of Brisbane. I always loved going past them on the way up to see the rellies in Rocky.
There was a loco yard near Redbank just south of Gailes golf course (Ipswich line). We used to go past a pub on the way to Redbank plaza (2 story Queenslander) and my old man used to tell of how the 70s floods left a dead cow on the 2nd floor veranda. This Pub was at the top of a hill.
Born in Brizzy, I have been living in WA since 83. Not much rail over here unless you wish to model the ore trains up north.

No, the layout will be North American and yes there is a lot of work here at the moment not just the railways but most of the industries here are looking for people.

It's been around (calling your layout a "subdivision") longer than Tonys' NKP ever existed. I've been calling my different layouts the Western Pacific 8th Subdivision since the 80s. A subdivision can be a useful chunk of a railroad for operational purposes, so not surprisingly many of us use one as the basis for a layout.
