Central Valley HO scale Bridge kit difficulty?
Posted by gd891 on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 12:12 PM
Any thoughts on the skill level it would take to build the Central Valley truss bridge (Kit #1902)?

I downloaded the instructions from their web site and they don't seem to be as detailed as I would like. Then, someone commented that they knew a MMR that had difficulting getting one built.

Before I plunk down the $40 for it, I thought I'd see if I could figure out if I could ever get it right. Is it something "doable" if you take your time, or would I need some advanced skills to get it right?

It's definitely not a "shake the box" kit. I'd rate it as a moderately difficult plastic kit. Just go slow, follow the instructions carefully. Makes a beautiful bridge.

Hi gd891,
I built the bridge you are talking about. It is a good looking bridge and as said a mid-level skill is required to build it. You have to be very careful to keep parts in alignment , but simple blocks and a straight edge will help you with this. The hardest thing you have to do is cut the angles on all the girders. They provide a template for this. The instructions are as good as any I guess, but you have to read ahead to figure out what they are talking about. They have a blow up diagram of this bridge on their web site.
