North Platte, NE- Bailey Yard. Models?
Posted by 80ktsClamp on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 3:25 PM

I've flown over North Platte a number of times in recent weeks, and couldn't help but wonder if anyone knows of a model that has been built of this gigantic mass of engineering?

I've tried google searches but turned up nothing.  It looks like it would be an extremely interesting (and incredibly complex) build.

Hold my beer... ya'll watch this!

Not only that, but you would need a gigantic room into which to model Bailey Yard if you're going to do it to exact scale.

The only scale model built was one done in the 1960's by the UP in a former passenger car as a training aid.

N Platte is about 8 miles long, so that would be HO yard 485 ft  long.  You'd need about 450-600 engines and 10,000 freight cars to run one day's trains.
