In the November issue or MR in the article "Making Trees from garden plants' (page 33) they talk about mixing 1 part of Matte medium with 4 parts of water. What is Matte Medium,? and where can one get that stuff.. Richard
This is matte medium. You can get it from almost any craft or art supply store. I got this one from Hobby Lobby. Just make sure you don't buy the gloss stuff by accident.
Matte medium is a type of higher quality white glue that dries clear and doesn't give off any shine. You can pick up jars of it at your local Micheal's or AC Moore, and even Walmart. The most common brand name is Mod Podge. (as seen in the above post)
Also, the gloss version can be used to create water effects.
I've used matte medium before but it's fairly expensive. I get really good results just mixing white glue and water 1:4 and squirt in some black paint to give the trees some "shadows". I've been using weeds harvested trackside, canytuft and glyp from Hobby Lobby and various course foam from Woodland and Scenic Express.
