Atlas switch machine under 2in foam
Posted by kasskaboose on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 6:57 AM

I  read on here about how some folks use piano wires or long paper clips to install Atlas switch machines underneath 2in foam.  Using paper clips allows me to penetrate the hole on the Atlas turnouts to get underneath them easily.  How do I install Atlas switch machines underneath the turnouts?  Do you extend the wires on the switch machines to make them reach the turnout holes or bury the machines sligly below the turnout?

Best,

I made a bell crank assembly the length needed to reach below the table. Search for "Under table adapters" or my past posts for details.  Atlas motors really need a capacitor  discharge power supply. The Atlas slide switches stick, or are held down too long and burn up the motors. The discharge system won't recharge until the switch is released. After using the above I have had no problems.

Have fun.

I'm having trouble finding my post, it may have been lost in the site switch over Confused.
Use two brass tubes that fit one inside the other and a paper clip that fits inside the smaller one. I cut a tiny piece of the larger tube to use a bearing to keep from binding. Put paper clip in the  top, past the bend before bending and you won't have to solder. Drill 1/8" inch hole in table between ties about 3/4" from throw bar.Make sure bends are correct I put small amount of glue on middle of the larger pipe and insert from the bottom to the proper height. That keeps glue off the top pivot point.  Glue 1/4" piece of plywood to bottom of foam Flip Atlas motor upside down mount. The  motor can be any azimuth from the pivot point just make sure the top and bottom bell crank arms are the same length.
