Will Varnish Prevent Glue from Sticking?

I have a perfectly good varnished table, and I was wondering if the varnish would prevent foam glue, scenic cement, or really any other type of glue from sticking.

Short answer - no. Most of the stuff we use have solvents that will attack the finish of the table. If the table is smooth enough you will be able to scrape/pry it up but paints can attack the finish and seep through into the grain of the wood. Best bet is to use a scrap of plywood or one of those hobby mats over the table. Still you'll need to be careful about spillage as I've found out the hard way.  J.R.
