Trying something new! Hiding the wire!
Posted by DONFLA on Saturday, April 12, 2008 9:41 PM

HO shelf Layout  2 X 8 feet   50 era  industral  DCC and sound.

I have buried the buss and 3 feeders  (thats all I needed) in the 2 inch foam.  I also buried the buss for the lighting and the wiring for the Turn table. and buried all the wiring for the 9 turnouts .  Yes, I managed to sqweeze in a turn table with out it looking out of place. Nothing hooked up yet but I think it will eventually all work.  I have nothing hanging down under the table.

TOM, I have not heard anything from BLI yet on my new SW-7. I have to say they are some hard people to get a hold of.  But I am encouraged by your comments that they are good people to deal with. I am very curious as to what happen myself.

 Will keep you up dated.

 Cheers,  DON

Pardner, I sure hope you haven't made a future home for our good buddy Murphy - but I wouldn't bet on it.  Hiding all of your wiring is an invitation to real problems in the future.

My approach is exactly opposite.  The only place where any wire isn't instantly accessible is the place where it passes through the roadbed and subgrade - vertically.  If I develop a short or open I'll be able to find and correct it without excavating through my scenery.

Don, at what point of constuction are you gonna bury the wire? Whats gonna happen if you decide to add/change your track? Are you gonna dig up your bus so you can re-wire to it? Are you gonna wire any accessories?? I would also make sure you have enough feeders...

Mike,

I buried all the wire after I layed out my track plan.  Its a very small layout so I only so much room to work with.  I doubt I will be changing the track plan once its layed.

The whole layout is just sitting on some wall brackets so I can tear it down and move it very easily in a short period of time. If I eventually built a larger layout,  which I doubt, this could be a nice section of it.
