Original architect? No. Not that talented. I just happened to be reading the April 2001 MR because it had an article about the Small Layout Contest winner for that year. In that MR, there is 2-page article for the Metro Belt and Terminal. The trackplan for the Buffalo & Susquehanna is virtually identical, even down to the operation and industry/scenic suggestions.
I just didn't think that it was right to enter the plan into a contest without a single reference to the original. It was clear to me from reading some of the other posts and critiques about the entries, that no one else recognized this plan from MR, so I thought I'd bring it up.
As I posted before, if the design was entered by the writer of the original April 2001 article, I'll just go sit quietly in the corner and hope no one notices me.
Wow a first post and you're calling someone out.
Possibly you are the plans original architect/designer? :-)

I've been able to rekindle my interest in model railroading now that the kids are getting older. In an effort to find some inspiration as to what kind of layout to build, I find these contests very interesting.
However, while looking at the HO contest entries, I noticed that the Buffalo & Susquehanna is a mirror image of a trackplan published in Model Railroader in April of 2001. The only difference is the addition of a small yard along the left wall.
While the Appalachian Central entry clearly includes references to the Model Railroader article as the inspiration for the design, the Buffalo & Susquehanna makes no such mention.
I find it sad that someone would enter a published trackplan as their own in a contest.
If the author of the April 2001 article entered his layout design as the Buffalo & Susquehanna, then please disregard this post.

Mmmm - not really, Don.
I haven't seen enough of your layout sketches to really recognize your drawing style. I would look for H0 scale, eastern, big steam and maybe not too much scenery in the sketch.
If I had to make a guess maybe H0 scale no 10. But I could be, and probably is, totally wrong.
It's not important. I just thought it funny that I recognized the style of quite a few participants. Or at least - that I thought I recognized the style of quite a few participants.
But SpaceMouse is right about that not necessarily not being the case for everybody who see the layout plans.
And even if quite a few recognized the styles of some of the participants, it is not a bad thing. Pretty much everyone who have seen a couple of Ian Rice layout plans recognize an Ian Rice plan when they see a new plan by him. Some designers just have a recognizable style.
Btw - no points awarded whatsoever for recognizing my entry - it wouldn't be much of a challenge for people who have seen me post various other layout plans. Not that I am claiming to be the equal of Ian Rice in any way, shape or form when it comes to layout design

Thanx! All is good.

Sorry about that. I forgot that was in my signature.
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

There are some really nice set ups in this round. I can honestly say mine isn't near the top....Darn it. Some of these offer great scenic oportunities. There goes my claim to fame. <snaps fingers>
