Look in the Digitrax decoder manual, starting on page 58. The CV57 that control the intensity of back-EMF has 2 values in each one. The low 4 bits are the value used when running individually, and the upper 4 bits are the value when in consist. A lower value for when in a consist makes sense, because otherwise the two locos will fight one another.
