Prodigy Advance questions
Posted by tdeater on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 6:45 AM
Does anyone know why MRC took the prodigy advance off the market for a while? What updates are they doing to it? I have one back ordered trough my local hobby shop.

Also, I am just getting started in DCC. I am looking for some advice on my motive power. I like the CSX line because they work near here. Does anyone offer a DCC equipped diesel for CSX? If I get DCC ready units, who makes the most cost effective decoders that will plug into the engine?

I liked the idea that was discussed a while ago about creating a DCC forum here. I know that I have learned a lot so far in the few months I have been a member. Thank you everyone for input!

tdeater -

I know for a while that MRC was backlogged on production of their PA units - I wasn't aware that they actually took them off the market.

I owned one for a while, but got rid of it in favor of the Digitrax Zephyr. I really like the Z now, but it's just my preference. Many manufacturers make good DCC systems.

I have also been using Digitrax decoders, as they have many different types of decoders that are designed for specific types of locos. For example, they have a "no-solder" harness/decoder for the old Athearn blue box locos, plug in chips for LL P2K locos, and the like. LifeLike has several P2K models in CSX, and are "DCC Ready". Kato has CSX stuff, too... Probably most other manufacturers have CSX.

You may want to try MicroMark. I have the PA and just got a booster and some fascia plates for the PA from them. They have it on sale in their latest catalog and on the web, so you may be able to get it from them.

I am very happy with my Prodigy Advance.
Thanks, Kevin

I have been highly pleased with my PA system. Suits my needs totally. You would like it I'm sure.
As far as CSX units with DCC, Atlas has made several CSX engines with DCC on board.
Athearn RTR line currently has several CSX engines. AC4400, SD50 to name a few. With the Athearn RTR engines they are DCC ready. They are already wired and have an NMRA socket to plug in a decoder. About a two minute job to put in the decoder.

I use the TCS T-1 decoder in mine. These are highly affordable decoders and they are dependable. I usually pick them up for around 15-16 bucks.
