6-23010 switch inoperative
Posted by David A. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 10:23 AM

I built a basic layout 15-20 years ago when the kids were small using 4 "modern" Lionel 6-23010 &11 switches. The pair that lines the train into the siding have given no problems, nor has the switch going into the "yard", but the switch in the yard is dead - almost.  The lantern lights, but neither light works on the controller and it won't change from straight to diverging.  I've read these switches are troublesome, but  thought I would try to fix it.  I am using the auxiliary power setting.  I have 12 volts at this point and 12 volts to the two micro switches, which both make and break.  I do not have any voltage at the outer two of the three terminals that go to the controller.  I'm pretty sure the electro-magnet (switch motor) is OK, because I put 12 volts directly to it and it hummed.  It's got to be a bad connection somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.  I thought maybe someone who has had experience with these switches might have some input.  Thanks. Dave

I figured it out - cold solder joint from the "motor" to one of the micro-switches. Thanks just the same.

Being unfamiliar with the Lionel part numbers, as so many of us are, is it HO or 027 or 0 gauge?

Elmer.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.

(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.

Since those are O-Gauge parts, you will probably have more knowledgeable responses from the sister forum dedicated to that style of railroading.
